“Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” Acts 10.15

The Sabhal Mòr Ostaig jungle-drums brought to my attention that this is Trans Awareness Week. I struggle with the whole concept. Should I confront it? Ignore it? Encounter it? Embrace it?

At the end of the day, all human-beings are reflections of our creator, made in God's image and therefore worthy of our mutual respect. But when a group gets together and chooses to self-identify through a particular aspect of their being or behaviour, what then? And when that identity and behaviour are not consistent with our understanding of scripture, how should we deal with it?

In a fallen world we expect things to jar, to go awry, to be problematic. Jesus is coming back to restore everything to the way it should be . He is already at work and we must learn from how he is going about it. He has not issued specific instructions about "trans awareness" and so we need to tread carefully. We are not all going to agree about what constitutes the most faithful response, yet we can pray for grace, patience, wisdom and, as God has gone to hell and back for us, surely we can go the extra mile for one another/
