Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4.12
On my rounds yesterday I was shocked by the lingering effect of lockdown. People complained of a lack of public spirit, the absence of volunteers, the decline in socialising, a neglect of care in the community. Whatever happened to building back better?
How will society cope with the bleakest of winters, if we languish in an enfeebled state? We cannot all do everything but we can all do something. Rather than shivering miserably alone at home, why not look for an opportunity to get out and serve?
Christians are called to be salt and light, the church is called to be a light-house, a beacon of hope and a source of welcome. Wouldn't it therefore be fitting if this winter saw an avalanche of Christians volunteering in their local churches, thereby uniting these vocations - to the glory of God?
