Pentecost reminds us that the events of the Bible - and indeed of history - are not random but the deliberate act of the Lord of history. Everything matters! This is why the Bible is so important: it reveals the will of God and the trajectory of history. It is the context in which God continues to act in the world. There is also a place for us - with a choice: will we swim with the current of popular opinion, which so often works in rebellion against God's intentions, or will we prepared to swim against that flow - yet buoyed up by the awareness that the tide is turning...
